BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP SUCCESS

The clubs swimmers produced a number of memorable performances at the British Championships in Sheffield competing against top class opposition. Harriet Cooper made the finals of the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke finishing in seventh with a new county, East Midland junior record and a World Junior Championship qualifying time for Great Britain. Cooper also finished fourth in the Backstroke setting a new East Midland Junior record and Senior County record.

Harriet West set a new personal best in the semi final of the 50m Backstroke and a seasons best in the 200m Butterfly. Megan Morrison finished 13th in the semi final of the 200 Breaststroke and was the youngest competitor in the event. Jack Warren Ballard set a new personal best to qualify for the 200m Backstroke semi final but then withdrew to compete at the English School Championships. Candice Hall finished just outside the 200m backstroke semi final places in a strong performance.

TRIO COMPETE AT MARE NOSTRUM

Harriet Cooper, Harriet West and Candice Hall competed at the Barcelona leg of the Mare Nostrum tour as part of the development towards international teams. All three girls competing against National teams and Olympians held their nerve and all achieved B finals performances. They now turn their attention to the British Championships later in June and the European Junior Championships for Cooper.

BIG SQUAD GOING TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

A total of 21 swimmers and 7 relay teams have qualified to the National Age and Youth Championships. This is one of the biggest squads the club has sent in recent years. Age Group qualifiers Simon Scully, Kieran Wheatley, Issac Peace, Ryan Gordon, Tom Ryan, Joel Weston, Tom Smith, Zoe Tildesley, Leah Walker, Hannah Knight, Daisy Platts and Milly Scotchbrook plus the Boys 4x100m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle, 4x100m Medley and Girls 4x100m Freestyle, 4x100m Medley Teams. Youth qualfiers Tsubasa Nakagawa, Jack Warren Ballard, Elliot Tointon, Harriet Cooper, Harriet West, Candice Hall, Megan Morrison, Dani Tomlinson, Georgia Petch plus Girls 4x100m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley Teams

CITY TAKES ON THE BEST AT MIDLAND AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS

54 swimmers qualified to compete over two weekends at the Midland Age Group Championships at Coventry. Over the championships the club achieved 5 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze totaling 26 medals. Kieran Wheatley, Sandy Jarvis, Ryan Gordon, Alex Soler Canto and Tom Ryan all swam became individual Regional Champions. Other individual medallists included Megan Morrison, Isaac Peace, Joel Weston, Josh Munroe. The relay teams also all qualified to the National Championships.

WEST PART OF TEAM WALES CELTIC TRI NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

Harriet West joined the Team Wales Youth and Senior Squads to attend the annual Celtic Tri Nations against Scotland and Ireland. Competing in the 50m and 100m Butterfly and Backstroke events for points Harriet won the B Finals of these event in new personal bests on the Backstroke. Team Wales were crowned overall champions.

CITY YOUTH SMASH REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

During the two day meet at Corby International Swimming Pool the youth swimmers produced 12 Gold 8 Silver and 7 Bronze medals. Harriet Cooper, Candice Hall and Elliot Tointon were all in great form winning their main events. The 4x100m Medley Team of Hall, Morrison, West and Cooper claimed the relay title in a tight race with NOVA seeding them 2nd for the National Title. There was also podium finishes for Spicer, Ballard and Nagakawa, Tomlinson, West and the Girls Freestyle team. There was also huge depth in other swimmers making finals, Bentley, Petch, Allen.

TRIPLE INTERNATIONAL GOLD FOR WEST

Competing for Wales at the CIJ Meet in Luxembourg Harriet West claimed Three gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly events. Harriet also swam in a further two finals just missing the podium. This was the first time Harriet has competed for her Home Nation. Next up is the Celtic Tri Nations meet in Scotland against teams from Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

WEST ON FIRST WELSH INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS

Harriet West has been selected by Swim Wales to represent her home nation at the CIJ Meet in Luxemburg during April and then the Tri Nations Cup in Scotland during May. This will be the first time she has competed for her country after a successful 2012. At the meet Harriet will contest her favored events Butterfly and Individual Medley.

COOPER SMASH FRAN HALLSALS BRITISH JUNIOR RECORD

At the recent Leicester Age Group Meet Harriet Cooper smashed the British Junior 50m Freestyle record held by Olympian Fran Hallsal since 2005. Having already broken the 100m Backstroke record earlier in the day Harriet displayed great mid season form as her preparations to the European Junior Championships continue.

 

COLSC STORM NUNEATON & BEDWORTH MEET

At the Nuneaton & Bedworth Meet at the start of April COLSC sent almost a full complement of swimmers aiming to qualify for Regional Age & Youth Championships. Throughout the meet COLSC displayed their strength in depth producing many Regional qualifiers. COLSC finished the meet being crowned Top Club. Congratulations to all that gained Regional and National qualifying times, winners were Isaac Peace with six gold medals, while Connor Jeffery took five, James Davies four and Daisy Platts and Zoe Tildesley three each. Josh Curtis, Tom Ryan, Josh Munroe and Ryan Gordon landed two golds, while there was one each for Joel Allen, Thomas Smith, Joseph Fletcher, James Watson, Luca de Zilva, Maisie Elliott, Georgia Petch, Millie Scotchbrook and Hannah Bentley
